Keyboard-First PM Tool 2026 | Cmd+K Vim Navigation

Developers optimize for flow.

Vim keybindings in VS Code. Terminal multiplexing with tmux.

Shell aliases for common commands. Every friction point eliminated.

Then they open Jira. Click to navigate to the board.

Click to open a card. Click the dropdown.

Click the status. Click to save.

Click to go back. Five mouse interactions for one status change.

The flow state built over hours of focused coding—destroyed in 30 seconds of project management. It doesn't have to be this way.

Linear proved developers will adopt tools that respect their keyboard-first workflow. But Linear lacks time tracking for agencies.

GitScrum takes that keyboard-first philosophy further: full command palette, Vim-style j/k navigation, hotkeys for every action. Create tasks, move cards, start timers, update status—all without reaching for the mouse.

Because developers shouldn't have to choose between project management and their flow state.

The GitScrum Advantage

One unified platform to eliminate context switching and recover productive hours.

01

problem.identify()

The Problem

Mouse-dependent PM tools break developer flow state

Status updates require multiple clicks through menus

No command palette for quick actions

No keyboard navigation between cards

Trackpad dependence clashes with keyboard-optimized coding

Context switch from IDE to mouse-first PM tool

02

solution.implement()

The Solution

Cmd+K command palette for instant actions

J/K navigation between cards (Vim-style)

Keyboard shortcuts for every action

Enter to open, Escape to close—familiar patterns

Number keys for quick status changes

Tab and Shift+Tab for field navigation

How It Works

1

Command Palette

Cmd+K opens the command palette. Type what you want: 'create task', 'go to sprint', 'start timer'. Fuzzy search finds the action. Enter executes. Same muscle memory as VS Code's Cmd+Shift+P.

2

Vim-Style Navigation

J moves down to the next card. K moves up. H and L navigate columns. No clicking through lists. Navigate the entire board with four keys—the same keys you use in Vim, less, and man pages.

3

Action Hotkeys

Selected a card? Press E to edit. Press 1-4 to change status. Press T to start timer. Press C to comment. Press Enter to open details. Press Escape to close. Every action has a key—memorize the ones you use most.

4

Cheat Sheet Access

Press ? to see all keyboard shortcuts. As you learn the shortcuts, you'll find yourself managing projects at IDE speed. The mouse becomes optional—used when you want it, not because you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Contact us at customer.service@gitscrum.com

Do I have to use keyboard shortcuts?

No—everything works with mouse too. Keyboard shortcuts are there for developers who want them, but the UI is fully clickable. Use whatever input method fits your moment.

How do I learn all the shortcuts?

Press ? to see the full shortcut reference. But you don't need to memorize everything—start with Cmd+K (command palette), J/K (navigate), and Enter/Escape (open/close). Add more as you find friction points.

Are the shortcuts customizable?

Not yet—we focus on sensible defaults that match developer muscle memory (Vim, VS Code patterns). Custom keybindings are on the roadmap for teams with specific needs.

Does this work with screen readers?

Yes. Keyboard-first design aligns well with accessibility. All interactive elements are properly labeled. Arrow keys, Tab navigation, and screen reader announcements work throughout the app.
